Advanced Class Bookings - Tuesday Evening Class

Spanish Arts Festival

At the end of November a few of the team will be flying out to Spain to engage in location-sourcing and rehearsals for a live performance display we will be putting on in Logrono, Spain in early January. The performance will be part of the arts festival 'Actual' and will run alongside a big-screen presentation of Jump Westminster, which has recently featured on Spanish television.

TVF Media Shoot

The week of November 12th will see us shooting an innovative and explosive action piece for the leading healthcare advertising agency TVF Communications. Parkour film-maker Julie Angel will be directing and filming, and the edit will be utilised as in-house advertising for the healthcare industry for 2008.

Telegraph Documentary

Academy student and film-maker Karen Palmer has just entered a new short film focussing on portraying the mental aspects of parkour training into the Daily Telegraph's Film Challenge competition. Entitled 'Mental Block', the piece focuses on another Academy student, Alli Shelton, as he goes about his own practise. It can be viewed here and is definitely worth a look.

NEW Beginner Class Opens in November

Due to increasing demand for quality instruction in the capital, as of Tuesday November 20th we will be opening up a new evening class for beginners/intermediate level at the state-of-the-art Academy Sports Centre on the Harrow Road. The classes will be at the usual time of 7.30-9.30pm every Tuesfday, and will mainly be in the capable hands of Johann Vigroux and Chris. Entry is still only £5, and no booking is necessary - just show up and dive in! Details and directions will soon be up on the Classes pages.

November Girls' Jam 11th Nov

The next women-only training day will be held on Sunday 11th November, from midday onwards. Again, one or two experienced instructors will be invited to assist the training. Anyone wishing to attend should email Tracey(at)parkourgenerations.com for details.

Halloween Academy Class, 1st November

As if it wasn't scary enough already, the Academy Class on Thursday 1st November will be a Halloween session... much like last year's Christmas Class, there will be a tidy prize of sports gear and accessories for the best-dressed fright-night freak. Be warned - you MUST train for the whole class in whatever costume you choose to wear...

Johann Vigroux On The Scene

We'd like to welcome team-member and star of the groundbreaking 'Jump London' documentary Johann Vigroux who arrives in the UK tomorrow and will now be based here indefinitely. Johann will soon be running a brand new Academy class for beginner students set to open at the end of November in the new Academy Sports Centre in West London. More information nearer the time, and all details will be found on our Classes pages.

Youth Academy To Move

Having just been to see the brand new Academy Sports Centre which will soon be the home of our Youth Academy class, we can safely say the new location will be a huge step up from its old premises. As of 23rd November, the Youth Academy will be run on a Friday evening at the same time of 6.30-8.30pm for 9-19 year olds. Completely free to all who live in the Westminster area, the Youth Academy is the ideal training ground for budding young traceurs. Watch this space for more information.

Teenage Kicks Parkour Demonstration

Friday 26th October will see some of our coaching staff giving a parkour demonstration at the annual Teenage Kicks Football event, presented by the Sky Partnership. The event is a 5-a-side free access football tournament, providing access to sport and physical recreation to 'at risk' young people - which effectively parallels much of the work we do through parkour. BBC Model Hunt

Next week a camera crew and model scouts from the BBC will be observing our Academy classes, filming for a six-part series about the process of finding new young models in the UK. To prevent people turning up with waxed hair and eye-liner we are not revealing which classes they will be coming to..!

Salisbury Workshop

This Friday, the 26th, sees us in Witlshire again running a three-hour workshop in Salisbury for the Wiltshire Alternative Youth Sports department of the Council. Always fun to work with, the Wiltshire youngsters are progressing quickly and confidently.

Half-term Workshops

Although half-term in the school year means less work for youngsters, it usually means more for us! This week Parkour Coaching is overloaded with half-term workshops... and Kazuma has been thrown straight into the action running a day's worth today in Brent with Dom. Forrest and Chris take over tomorrow.

Finland Seminar - November

Jump Westminster Nominated for Award

Parkour Coaching and Westminster Sports Unit's groundbreaking Jump Westminster Project, including Julie Angel's pioneering documentary following our work teaching young people living in 'at risk' areas of London, has been nominated as a finalist in the Children & Young People's Service Awards 2007 in the Play and Social Development Category. The award winner will be announced on Thursday 22nd November 2007 at the awards ceremony held at the Hurlingham Club, London.

October Edutain Workshops

October 22/23/25 sees more of the popular Edutain Parkour Workshops being run by Westminster Sports Unit and Parkour Coaching as part of the Positive Futures social inclusion programme. The Edutain workshops have become a regular feature for us, and we are happy to see them going from strength to strength. Mobius Dance Theatre Sessions

October 22nd and 23rd will see us running workshops for Coventry-based Mobius Dance Theatre Company - the event promises to be a fascinating one, with professional dancers thrown into the mix of students attending. More Brent Workshops

23/24 October will see four workshops being run by Parkour Coaching for Brent Council, following on from the run we did there over the summer. The outdoor workshops are continually providing access to the discipline to young people in 'at risk' areas of the city, and more and more Councils are expressing their interest after the successes in Westminster, Brent and Wiltshire in particular.

Schools Courses Update

The new schools have started their parkour classes in seamless fashion, and are now in full swing with good attendance figures and great feedback. With more schools keen to get involved in the programme the discipline looks set to be well served at the grass-roots level over the coming years.

October Girls' Jam Report

Today's all female training session was a good one, blessed with great weather and some new faces. Stephane, Dan and Kazuma were invited to lend a hand and the women threw themselves into some good movements after Tracey blasted them with a suitably taxing warm-up... Thanks to Kiell for coming along with camera in hand, and to all the women who made it such a good day.

New Academy Class on Tuesdays

Now that team member Kazuma is based in London, we are now running another Outdoor Class in the week which he will be teaching personally. The class will be on Tuesday evenings, from 7-8.30pm, and will be an advanced level class. To book a place on this class email dan(at)parkourcoaching.com or alternatively book in person at one of the Indoor Academy Classes. Kaz will also be teaching at the Friday Outdoor Class, for which we will be accepting an extra 6 bookings per week.

German Parkour Documentary

For the last couple of days we have had a small production unit from German parkour collective, ParkourOne, filming the classes and running interviews. The footage is to be used in a documentary showcasing the rise of parkour in the UK. When it is released for general consumption we'll let you know here.

DVD Magazine: What's Up London

Earlier this week we were asked to be involved in the forthcoming new urban lifestyle DVD magazine, 'Whats Up London'. The DVD is a free magazine about urban lifestyle in London, keeping the people informed about latest events, gigs, entertainment, fashion, arts and current affairs as well as reporting on the urban music scene across all genres. The Parkour Coaching team met with the guys on Tuesday, and the results can be found in the DVD which will be distributed free of charge at all urban record, fashion and barber outlets across London.

October 14th Girls' Jam

Kazuma Comes...

As of October 10th Parkour Coaching Team Member Kazuma will be based here in London, responding to the growing demand we are facing for elite instructors in the UK. Kazuma will be settling in for a few weeks at first, but his and Johann's presence in the UK means we will shortly be opening up more indoor and outdoor classes in the week - watch this space for details.

New Article by Ryan 'Demon' Ford

Last week Parkour Coaching spent some time with American traceur Ryan Ford and accompanying film crew from Redline Films for the shooting of material for a forthcoming ESPN documentary. The team had a great time meeting Ryan, and he has since written an article on his experience of studying with Steph, Seb, Thomas and the Yamakasi. Parkour Coaching K-Swiss Commercial

The television commercial we shot in Tokyo for K-Swiss and MTV earlier this year is now online at the new K-Swiss website. Also there is a short edit of John Bourne in action, one of the Australian traceurs who trained with Forrest and Dan for a short time many moons ago. Good to see him still in action!

Johann Vigroux heeds the call...

As of mid-October Johann Vigroux, team member and the star of the award-winning documentary Jump London, will be based in London to lend his experience in support of the huge demand for teaching we are now facing. We are all very much looking forward to having Johann around - though the Academy students may not feel the same after a suffering a few sessions with him...

Video Art Project with Layla Curtis

This week we embark on the first stages of an ambitious and innovative video art project with acclaimed artist Layla Curtis, who will be adopting some highly creative and original means in producing a piece of video art focussing on unusual routes through a city. The piece has been commissioned by the City of Westminster, and promises to be one of the most interesting visual representations of parkour to date...

MTV Base Idents

The idents we shot with MTV Base have been showing on that channel as of today with good regularity, and they have been extremely well received so far. We now have some of the footage back from MTV and will have it up on this website soon. Thanks again to all the Academy regulars who helped out!
